Are Used Stamps Worth Anything?
Most ordinary used stamps are worth very little, often only a few pence, because they were used and saved in enormous numbers. But "used" does not mean worthless: value comes from scarcity, condition and demand, not from whether a stamp has been postally used. Some used stamps are worth more than the same stamp mint, and a few are highly valuable. The honest answer is that it depends entirely on which stamp it is.

Why most used stamps are worth little
The reason most used stamps are worth so little is simple: supply. Ordinary stamps were printed in the millions, used on everyday post, and saved by collectors in vast quantities, so common used stamps are anything but scarce.
A box of mixed used stamps may hold thousands worth only pence each. This is not a reflection on the stamps, only on how many survive. Values are a guide only and depend on condition and the individual stamp.
When used stamps are worth more
- Scarcity. A genuinely scarce used stamp, of a low-printing issue or a hard-to-find plate, can be worth a great deal.

This happens where a stamp is genuinely scarce used, perhaps because most surviving examples are mint, or where a particular cancellation or usage is prized.
